Players are selected based on a combination of:Performance in sanctioned national tournaments throughout the seasonDUPR rating and consistencyCommitment to training and availability for international travelConduct and sportsmanship on and off the courtSelections are made by Pickleball Ireland’s Team Selection Panel, with final squads announced several months before each major international event.
Two Competitive Categories – One Team, One Flag
To ensure inclusive, age-appropriate competition and align with international standards, Team Ireland is proudly structured into two elite squads: the 18+ Squad and the 50+ Squad. While each represents different stages of life and competition, both share the same goal — bringing home medals for Ireland.
18+ Squad – The Next Generation of Champions
This squad is built around speed, stamina, and world-class skill. Open to all players aged 18 and over, this team represents the highest competitive tier of Irish pickleball.
Players in the 18+ squad typically:
Compete regularly in national and international open tournaments
Maintain high DUPR ratings and strong win/loss records
Show consistent commitment to their training and development
Members of this squad go head-to-head with the best players from across Europe and beyond, flying the Irish flag in prestigious events like the European Pickleball Federation Championships, and international open tournaments. They are our trailblazers — raising the standard of Irish pickleball worldwide.
50+ Squad – Excellence Through Experience
The 50+ squad showcases the strategic mastery, resilience, and experience of Ireland’s senior players. As one of the fastest-growing divisions in Europe, this age group is no longer just competitive — it’s commanding.
Players are selected based on:
Tournament performance within age-specific brackets
High DUPR ratings in the 50+ category
Fitness, consistency, and tactical gameplay
The 50+ squad combines wisdom and grit, challenging the status quo and proving that elite pickleball has no age limit. Their representation on the European stage is a powerful statement: Ireland’s talent runs deep and wide.
European Federation Championships – Rome 2025
Team Ireland will next compete at the European Pickleball Federation Championships, held in Rome, Italy, in 2025. This event brings together top players from over 20 European nations, battling for medals and rankings in a vibrant, elite atmosphere.
